The Trojan Horse

Turkey Day 3
We woke up early and rode the bus forever to get to Galipoli, a WWI site where many lives were lost. I sat by my good friend Joey and he doesn't like people in her personal space so what did I do? I fell asleep with my head towards the isle on our forever long ride and then woke up with my head on his shoulder. It happens. He was a good guy about it luckily! I had a lot of time to think on the bus and learned more about myself. I’m the world’s worst artist but I want to learn to be better. I might take up knitting. Maybe I’ll learn to paint. Drawing is out of the question…I struggle with stick figures. I don’t know. I just need to create more. Anyways I just want to make myself the best I can and develop my talents. I love Turkey.

Anyways, Galipoli. It’s a very somber place. It’s crazy to think of how many lives were lost for hardly any reason since no ground was won. We sang “Lord, I Would Follow Thee.” The graves had beautiful sayings on them that touched my heart and helped me relate to them. Some of them said, “No greater love hath any man than he that layeth down his life for his friends.” Christ laid down his life for all of us and our soldiers lay down their lives for their country. Both are protecting us and giving us freedom. They are preventing us from enslavement from other countries and from our sins. Other graves said “A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled.” And “They never fail who die in a great cause.”  It was a gorgeous place and we skipped rocks on the beach.

Then we drove to a little restaurant on the beach for lunch. It reminded me of a cheap Chinese restaurant. Made me miss New Fongs with Jack Snyder! But it did have a gorgeous dock to look out over! Then we drove our giant bus onto an even gianter ferry to go to the Asian side of Turkey. It was so windy and cold but a beautiful ferry ride!

Do you see the Turkish flag?

I love this place.

Then we drove down to TROY!!!! Troy was awesome and there’s a huge wooden horse there! Who woulda thunk!? It’s a replica, not the real thing. But still pretty sweet. We got to climb in and had a blast taking pictures there. Troy was a fun ruin site because you could see the different layers of city at different times. But let's talk about that horse. All I could think about was Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It has completely ruined my idea of history. Actually, I lied, it taught me a lot. I knew the story of Troy very well because I had seen it fail in the movie. Such a great movie!!

The Horse would have been rolled up some kinda ramp like this

This is my good friend AJ, we took a 500 days of Summer picture here
We love Troy

Me, Angie and Braelynn

This is my friend Alex. He's great. My feet were out the bottom and we looked like a massive human but we didn't get the picture because I was laughing too hard to keep my feet up...

Then we went back to our hotel and had a whole 30 minutes before dinner so I ran and jumped in the ocean. IT WAS FREEZING!!! But we swam around and did backflips off the dock. After dinner we came back to the dock and laid down to look up at the stars. Such a gorgeous site! Becca and I snuck onto the roof that night and talked under the stars in Turkey as we looked out over the Aegean Sea. Wow. No big deal. Just another day in Turkey! Someday
